The term Sun Number was first introduced by me around 2005. I had long viewed this number as a pivot point around which other cycles orbited based on the calculations of all yearly, monthly, and daily cycles.
Prior to that, this unique aspect was unrecognized.
While it had been known as the Attitude number, that name did not convey the importance of its location within the patterns that make up your dynamic chart. Nor did, in the almost 50 years that I have studied and practiced numerology, anyone or any book ever point to this unique feature.
Since then, both the name and it's important function as a central point within your chart have spread through the numerology community and you will now find mention of it on many places.

About the Sun Number
Within the dynamic environment of the personal and universal cycles affecting you, your Sun Number is your anchor. Think of it as the location where you stand while everything around you is in motion.
Your Sun Number also reveals how you will
approach each cycle and how they are likely to influence you (in this way, it is known as the Attitude Number).

For example, if your Sun Number is 1, you tend to take opportunities and challenges head on. You don't hesitate, you don't back down, and you generally don't ask for help.
On the other hand, if your Sun Number is 2, you tend to deal with changing circumstances by carefully weighing the pros and cons, asking others for their opinion – then, when you are ready, taking the necessary steps.
The Sun number is also known as the Attitude number, because they are calculated the same way. However, the term "Sun number" refers to its unique mathematical position as the pivot point for all the cycles based on your date of birth. The meaning of the Sun numbers is the same as the Attitude number.

How Your Personal Cycles Pivot Around Your Sun Number
The most strongly felt cycle is your Personal Year cycle, which changes each calendar year. The cycle begins gradually - you begin to feel a personal year's influence a month or so before the end of the previous year, and a few months later it's fully in place. The exact start and finish depends on your Life Path number.
Keep in mind that, as with all numbers found in your chart, their influence is limited to the area they affect. The Sun Number/Attitude Number focuses on your attitude toward changes, which is particularly helpful when challenges are unexpected.

Calculating Sun Numbers
Your Sun Number is easy to calculate and never changes. Simply add your month and day of birth, and reduce to a single digit (reduce Master numbers to a single digit as well).
For example, if you were born May 15, add 5 (for May) and 15, is 20, which reduces to 2 (2 + 0). If you were born November 23, add 11 (for November) and 23, is 34. Reduce 34 by adding 3 and 4 to find the Sun Number 7.
