This cycle is relatively easy to calculate and is the basis for all daily, monthly, and yearly forecasts; however, Essence cycles are just as influential and powerful as the Personal Years.
The lower part of the Decoz Chart system included in the World Numerology App shows the Transits, Essence, and Personal Year cycles. From the top: the person's age, Physical Transit, Mental Transit, Spiritual Transit, double-digit Essence, single-digit Essence, the Period Cycles, a space, then the Personal Year cycle, the calendar year, and Pinnacle Cycles.
The problem with Essence cycles is that they are not as easy to calculate. Before I explain the formula for the Essence cycles, let me point out a few other things that are important and different from the Personal Year cycles.
Your Transit and Essence cycles are derived from the letters in your full name at birth. The Personal Year/Month/Day cycles are based on your date of birth.
Personal Year/Month/Day cycles run in tandem with the calendar year, although it is not always exactly from January to December. This depends on whether your date of birth is close to the end or beginning of the calendar year or closer to the center. Essence and Transit cycles run from birthday to birthday.

Most importantly, the effect of Personal Years (as well as Personal Month and Day cycles) is felt "externally," not unlike the weather or the environment you find yourself in.
Essence and Transit cycles are felt "internally;" think of it as your state of being, your mood and emotional state.
Whereas Personal Year cycles tend to reveal circumstances around you, offering you opportunities as well as challenges to which you respond, Essence and Transit cycles reveal your state of mind -- where you're at on your path, what you want and what motivates you.
This is similar to the Life Path, which is also based on your date of birth and shows the path you're on, and the core numbers from your name, which reveals the person walking that path. These are two distinctly different views.

If you seek a more in-depth and complete understanding of where you are in your personal evolution and what you can expect to experience in the near -- or not so near -- future, you need to look at both sets of cycles.
As an example, let's say that you are in a 4 Personal Year. You will find that your career is more demanding, there is no room for procrastination, you are swamped with details and that you regularly get frustrated with the slow pace in which everything seems to move.
You will also find that people lean on you more than usual, especially those who are not very efficient at keeping the material/financial side of their lives under control.
For these reasons, you will find that you take your job more seriously, are less social and focus better than at other times in your life.
However, if you also have a 5 Essence cycle, all the influences of the 4 Personal Year are still there, but you have a very difficult time responding to their requirements properly. Instead, you feel restless, scattered and easily bored. The 5 Essence, the internal cycle, puts you in a state of mind that is almost directly opposite from what the 4 Personal Year is asking from you -- a shorter-than-usual attention span, a strong need to go out and be social and have fun, to postpone things, to travel and to be impulsive.
-Ω-
On the other hand, if you have a 4 Personal Year cycle coupled with a 6 Essence, you are in much better shape to take advantage of the opportunities of the 4. Because a 6 Essence makes you feel responsible, balanced, capable, stable and comfortable with your surroundings. People respond better to you.

Our World Numerology Collection, offers an in-depth Numerology forecast that talks about your Essence as well as your Personal Year cycles in a way that should help you get a better picture of your current cycles.
Your Transit cycles are also included in the report, and they form the foundation for your Essence cycle. You find the Transit cycles by adding the number of years equal to the numerology value of each letter in your name until you reach your current age.
For example, if your first name is Johannes, the first year after you were born has a "J" First Transit, but only for one year because the letter "J" has a value of 1 and therefore only lasts one year. For the next six years the letter "O" is in place because the "O" has a value of 6, and therefore runs for six years and so forth. The "H" is an 8, and thus occupies its position as a First Transit for eight years. When you have worked your way through the whole first name, it starts all over.
As you can see, calculating Essence and Transit cycles is considerably more complicated than Personal Years. But if you are up for it, you can learn more about those cycles here.

From Numerology Questions - a Dear Hans column:
Dear Hans,
I was calculating my numerology Essence chart and noticed that the number 2 dominates for quite awhile from 28+ years of age. I remember going through my 2 personal year about two years ago. Since then, I have positive and negative emotions about the number 2. What might occur during the years approaching? Does the personal year have more of an effect?
What would you recommend/caution against, if anything?
Thanks for your time,
Cathy
(Note: Generally, only the long-term cycles run for such long periods. You can find yours here and learn how they affect you.)
Dear Cathy,
I included your chart with an outline showing the section that is in place for this year.
(By the way, you can make your own charts right here on our website. Free, of course.)
The vertical column above the highlighted 10 shows the long- and short-term cycles in place for 2010. (The reason there is a slight shift between the upper rows and the three lower rows indicates that the cycles in the upper section run from birthday to birthday, while the lower section cycles run from January 1 through December 31.
You mention in your letter that you are concerned about the 2, because you experienced a 2 Personal Year a couple of years back (2008) and obviously, you have unpleasant memories. However, The effect of a Personal Year cycle is very different from that of an Essence or Transit cycle.
The Personal Year's influence is external, meaning that the affect is largely a result of changing circumstances and your environment, and the challenges and opportunities that offers. Not all that dissimilar from being in a class room where your teacher and other students control the external influences.
The impact of the Essence cycle is internal. In other words, it reveals where you are at, your state of mind, your priorities, your personal wants and dreams and, of course, your doubts and fears.
Think of your Essence cycle as giving an indication what stage in your personal evolution you are in, i.e. the student's state of mind in the aforementioned class room.
So, while you may have experienced a difficult 2 Personal Year, probably due to relationship issues, excessive sensitivity, and emotional imbalance (sometimes resulting in health problems related to the nervous system), a 2 Essence cycle will feel very different as it enhances your awareness, sharpens your intuition, increases your ability to read other people, and improves your overall people skills.
A 2 Essence indicates that you gain a better understanding of who you are in relation to those around you. While the 2 is a gentle and non-confrontational number, when found as an Essence cycle its influence actually makes you stronger and more confident.
The only period that will cause issues similar to what you experienced two years ago, and perhaps even more intense, is the early part of 2017 when you have a 2 duality; a 2 Essence and a 2 Personal Year. On the plus side, you will be better equipped to deal with it due to the six years of 2 Essence "training" prior to that.
By the way, the most transformative time in your life will be from late 2015 to late 2016 when, for the first time in your life, you change both long-term cycles; Pinnacles and Period Cycles.
In your case that includes a lasting relationship commitment, a fairly dramatic personality change making you much more out-going and socially proficient, and a boost in creativity enough to possibly cause a career change.

From Numerology Questions - a Dear Hans column:
Dear Hans,
How exactly does a universal year, effect one's personal year? I mean I hear Hans and other numerologists talk about the universal year, but they don't really seem to go in depth with it.,
Chad
Dear Chad.
As the name suggests, Universal Year, Month, and Day, cycles are based on the calendar year only, and affect all of us. The effect is minor and its influence on any particular individual is so small as to be pretty much non-existent. Which explains why it does not in any way appear as a noticeable common denominator for all people.
However, it does have a powerful impact on the world as a whole. To use an analogy, if every person on the planet receives a penny it makes no measurable difference for any one of us, yet adds $80,000,000.00 to the global market.
Personal Year, Month, and Day, cycles, on the other hand, are based on the influence a single individual's personal "calendar" has - the rhythm of daily and yearly cycles that originated at the birth of that person and is innately tied to the universal calendar. And this is one of those aspects of numerology that reveals the logic underlying the art and science of numerology.
On one hand, you have this huge Universal cycle, a pattern of cycles within cycles that operates on a global plane. On the other hand, there is the individual's personal rhythm of cycles that started a short time ago, at his or her birth.
And it is on the intersection of those cycles that the moment to moment influence of the Personal Year cycle functions.
Your personal cycles merge with the universal cycles to reveal what kind of influences, positive and negative, are at play. (This too, is why the Personal Year cycles are felt to be more or less external, as its influence reflects forces and events coming from outside of you, while the Essence and Transit cycles seem more internal. The Essence and Transit cycles are not tied into the Universal cycles in any way.)
This logic is also seen in the mathematical formula used to calculate your Personal Year cycles.
Take the month and day of your birth - the starting point of your personal life rhythm - and add the current calendar year - a point in the calendar year that represents the "now." In other words, you plug your personal cycles into the universal year cycles, like a second drummer picking up the rhythm of the first one, and adding his own variations while consistently sticking to the first drummer's rhythm. Now let's add some other instruments.
As I mentioned, the Essence and Transit cycles are not connected to the universal calendar, only to your date of birth and even then, the date of birth is only there to produce a timeline, adding absolutely nothing as far as the effect a particular Essence or Transit cycle might have. Your Essence and Transit cycles are based on the letters in your name, creating a music that is totally independent from outside sources as it is you, and only you as reflected in your name, playing that instrument. Dates have nothing to do with it. So here you have different kinds of cycles based on different sources, yet all intersecting and playing together in a harmony not unlike music.
The Universal Year/Month/Day cycles are in part the foundation of the Personal Year/Month/Day cycles, like two cycles connected for as long as you live, while the Essence and Transit cycles are weaving through them yet are completely independent, adding the individual's personal evolutionary path to give meaning and purpose to all of it.
